The answers to your questions
What’s the difference between a courthouse elopement and an excursion elopement?
Great question! Both are beautiful options, it just depends on your vibe.
Courthouse elopements are simple, heartfelt ceremonies held at the Jefferson Courthouse, WV. After the vows, we’ll head out for portraits in charming downtown Charles Town —think brick sidewalks, historic architecture, tucked-away alleys, and beautiful textures that create a timeless backdrop.
Excursion Elopements are a bit more adventurous. These are built around a location that means something to you, like a scenic overlook, forest trail, riverbank, or mountaintop. The ceremony can happen anywhere, and we craft the day around creating meaningful, artful moments in nature.
Still unsure? I’d love to help you decide what kind of setting fits your story best.
Can you be in the courthouse with us during the ceremony?
Yes! Most couples are surprised to hear this, but I’m allowed inside the courthouse to quietly photograph your ceremony. The Jefferson County Courthouse is incredibly accommodating, and it’s a beautiful, historic space that adds so much character to your gallery.
I’ll capture your vows, the ring exchange, and those candid little moments before and after, without interrupting the flow of your ceremony. It’s such a meaningful part of the day, and I’m always honored to document it.
If you’re planning a courthouse wedding, let’s chat in advance so I can walk you through what to expect and make sure the timing and logistics are seamless.
What should we wear for our elopement?
For weddings and elopements, I always recommend leaning into wedding attire! A wedding gown and a suit or tux, even for a simple or outdoor elopement, elevate the feel of the day and make your photos instantly iconic. That said, this is your day, and you can customize your look however you’d like.
Some couples go formal, others add creative twists (like boots, capes, or heirloom accessories). Whatever you choose, aim for clothing feels like you and complements your setting.
What if it rains on our wedding day? Should we reschedule?
Nope, we don’t reschedule your wedding, and besides, isn't rain on your wedding day good luck?!
If it does rains on your special day, we will add that to your amazing story. Rain can be romantic, dramatic, playful, and unforgettable. I have plenty of inspiration for creating magic in the rain, and I come prepared with clear umbrellas, protective gear, and backup plans.
Can we bring our pet?
Yes, please! I love when couples include their four-legged friends. Whether it’s a dog as your ring bearer or your cat making a cameo, I’ll help you make it happen. Just bring treats, a favorite leash or carrier, and someone to help handle your pet during the ceremony and portraits when needed.
Will you Photoshop us? What’s included in the editing process?
Your photos will be polished, natural, and beautiful. My editing process includes blemish removal, color and light correction, dress billowing, and removal of distractions (if needed).
But I don’t believe in changing who you are. If you’re nervous about a particular feature, we can chat about that, but know that I approach every couple with care and honesty. I won't erase a baby bump, drastically change body shapes, or edit out meaningful parts of your story. This day is about you, just as you are.
Why does it take several weeks to get my photos?
This is artwork, not a rush job. After your day, I begin a thoughtful multi-step editing process. I review and select the strongest images, make global adjustments, fine-tune each photo individually, and then retouch any images that need polishing in Photoshop. This part of the work unfolds over time, and I pace myself so I can give each photo the attention it deserves.
Once the edits are complete, I wait one more day before delivery so I can review your gallery with fresh eyes, just like you will. Your love deserves that kind of care.
What if one of us wakes up with a blemish?!
Skip the concealer, I’ve got you. Blemishes are so easy to remove in post-production, it’s not even worth stressing about. Come as you are, I've got you covered.
How long should we plan for photos?
For courthouse weddings, the time block is 2 hours, 30 for the ceremony, and about 1 hour for portraits around town, and a 30 minute buffer. Sometimes we are late getting into the courthouse, and often times there is fun conversation with the judge after, so buffer time is really important.
For adventure or excursion elopements, we can tailor your timeline depending on location and light. A short hike with golden hour portraits? Yes, please.
I’ll help you build a timeline that flows naturally and keeps the focus on being present for each other.
