A Perfect Surprise Proposal in Harpers Ferry: Justice & Becky’s Engagement Photoshoot
I’ve had the privilege of photographing many young couples in love, but every once in a while, a session stands out as something truly unforgettable. That was definitely the case with Justice and Becky’s engagement photoshoot in Harpers Ferry, WV.
We scheduled their sunset photoshoot for 4 p.m., and Justice planned a beautiful surprise for Becky—he was going to propose in the middle of the session! As with many outdoor locations, Harpers Ferry can get pretty crowded, especially on a Saturday afternoon. The day before our shoot, the couple reached out, a bit anxious about the crowds and worried that the park might be too busy for a relaxed, intimate session. I reassured them that we’d make it work, and if needed, I’d work my Photoshop magic to clear out any distractions in the background. No big deal!
The next morning, I went to Harpers Ferry to capture the fog on the river at sunrise. The scene was absolutely breathtaking, with the fog rolling over the water and the fall colors beginning to peek through the breaking darkness. As I enjoyed the beauty before me, I had a realized I should tell Justice and Becky arrive a full hour before our session, as parking can be tricky. I sent Justice a quick text suggesting they arrive early and to my surprise, Justice texted back almost immediately, saying that they had already made the trip to Harpers Ferry. They were also worried about parking, and decided to come first thing in the morning and just spend the day in the park. I had a moment of inspiration and asked, “What do you think about doing the photoshoot now instead of waiting until sunset?” Without hesitation, they were on board, eager to take advantage of the quiet morning and avoid the crowds.
And let me tell you—what followed was nothing short of magical.
With the fog still hanging over the river and no crowds to be seen, we had Harpers Ferry all to ourselves. Justice and Becky were fresh, excited, and full of energy, and we got to work capturing beautiful moments in some of the most stunning fall scenery I’ve ever photographed. The colorful foliage, the charming old architecture of the town, and the misty river made for the perfect backdrop to their engagement photos.
The best part? Justice was able to propose right in the middle of the shoot, just as he had planned. The moment was intimate, emotional, and exactly what he had hoped for—an unforgettable surprise for Becky in a place that felt like it was just theirs.
It’s not every day that you get to photograph such a beautiful, meaningful moment, and I’m so glad we made the call to do the shoot early. The peaceful atmosphere of the morning, combined with the perfect fall vibes, made for a photoshoot that I’ll never forget.Congratulations again, Justice and Becky! Your love, excitement, and energy made this day so special, and I can’t wait to see where your journey takes you.
